Why MAPP

Every profile deserves careful mapping.

If you are considering an autism assessment, you are likely looking for more than a report: a person-centred, compassionate, clinically rigorous understanding of how you work. That has been MAPP’s approach since the beginning. We map profiles carefully, we support people beyond their outcome, and we keep the practice small enough to do both properly.

Our approach

Person-centred, holistic, clinically informed.

Person-centred

The assessment fits around you, not the other way round. Tell us what makes conversation easier: a slower pace, breaks, or written communication. We adapt willingly, and we ask questions thoughtfully and sensitively.

Holistic and nuanced

We consider you as a whole person: your history, your circumstances, and the biological, psychological and social factors at play in your life. A profile is a landscape, not a checklist.

Compassionate, beyond the outcome

Whatever the conclusion, you leave with a carefully mapped profile, recommendations tailored to you, and support available afterwards. Understanding is the point, not the label.

The wider market

Deliberately small, deliberately senior.

Private autism assessment has grown quickly, and approaches vary widely. Many services have scaled by standardising their packages and training new assessors at pace. We have stayed small and senior instead. The differences are practical ones.

In practice

What that means for your assessment.

01

Dual-clinician formulation, as standard

No diagnosis at MAPP rests on a single opinion. Two senior clinicians consider every formulation together before any conclusion is reached. In much of the market, one assessor decides alone.

02

A thoroughly vetted team

Everyone who works with us works or has worked in autism assessment services, and we vet our clinicians thoroughly. Where a trainee or assistant contributes, your senior clinician supervises their work closely.

03

Leading NHS autism services today

Our clinicians currently hold senior and lead roles in NHS autism services. The standard you receive at MAPP is the standard used in national services.

04

NICE-aligned, gold-standard methodology

Assessment follows NICE-aligned protocols: the ADOS-2 observational assessment and a developmental history informed by the ADI-R and 3Di. These are the tools national services trust.

05

Part of the national infrastructure

Our clinicians contribute to national assessment protocols and have assessed subtle and complex presentations for many years. Fellow professionals consult us on their hardest diagnostic questions.

06

A guided, contained process

One senior clinician remains your point of contact from first conversation to aftercare. A screening stage protects you from an unnecessary assessment, and costs are agreed before each stage.

Our ethos

People are more than diagnostic labels. Our work is to provide clarity and direction, and to help you find a compassionate, meaningful way of understanding yourself.
