Refer a client
Referrals are welcome, and simple.
GPs, psychiatrists, psychologists and therapists refer clients to MAPP for specialist autism assessment; so do employers, through HR and occupational health. This page sets out how referral works, what your client receives, and what you can expect back. We respond to professional enquiries within two business days, and there is no waiting list.
How referral works
Three steps, no forms to hunt for.
1
Write to us
With your client’s consent, send a brief outline of the situation and their contact details, by email or through our contact form.
2
Screening first
Every client begins with a screening assessment: a clinical interview with a senior clinician, and honest advice on whether a full assessment would be appropriate and helpful.
3
You stay informed
With your client’s consent, we write to you and their GP with the outcome, and our full report is written to be used in ongoing care.
What your client receives
A report written to be used in practice.
- A NICE-aligned assessment: ADOS-2 observational assessment and a developmental and informant interview informed by the ADI-R and 3Di
- Dual-clinician formulation: two senior clinicians consider every case before any conclusion is reached
- A comprehensive written report whatever the outcome: an autism profile if autism is diagnosed; a social communication and information-processing profile if it is not
- Clinical recommendations tailored to the client, with a feedback session in plain language
- An outcome letter for you and the GP, with the client’s consent; every diagnostic outcome we have issued has been recognised by GPs and the NHS to date
Not referring for a new assessment?
Second opinions and consultation for colleagues.
If your question is about an existing report rather than a new referral, we provide independent second opinions: a structured review of the evidence, tools and reasoning behind an existing assessment, with a written opinion suitable for sharing. We also offer supervision and complex case consultation for clinicians working with autistic clients.
HR and occupational health
Referring an employee, or funding an assessment.
Employers may fund an assessment for an employee, and many of our organisational clients combine assessment with workplace consultation: reasonable adjustments advice, facilitated three-way meetings, and discreet support for senior colleagues. Confidentiality is handled to clinical standards throughout.
